What is RUNA and what is its mission?

RUNA is the institutional archive of the Galician Department of Health - Sergas.
Its mission is to manage, disseminate and preserve knowledge generated by professionals from the Galician Department of Health - Sergas.
The objective is to uphold and provide access to digital content generated within the organisation.

What are the advantages of placing knowledge content in RUNA?

Files saved in the RUNA archive benefit both authors and institutions. The following are some of the most important advantages:

  • Centralised point of access to institutional scientific production.
  • Offers the possibility of increasing visibility of publications and therefore reaching a greater number of readers, thus resulting in a greater number of citations of the work.
  • Permits access to statistical data on consultations and downloads of the work.
  • Accredits authorship of the work by making it available on the Internet and ensures conservation in an electronic and dynamic environment, using persistent and stable identifiers for every piece of work archived.

Who can self-archive in RUNA?

All authors whose published works are the result of their professional activity carried out in any of the centres and institutions that make up the Galician Public Health System. Also eligible are authors whose work has been funded by the Galician Public Health System.

Files can either be self-archived or sent to the library for filing on author’s behalf.

What is meant by archiving or filing on author’s behalf?

Filing on author’s behalf is a procedure by which authors request the library to place their works in the archive. To do so, they must fill in a form with their personal information and the documents they wish to file, sign a consent form and attach the full text of the documents.

What is the type of information that can be archived?

The Galician Public Health System archive consists of a single information point containing all intellectual and scientific production from the clinical, teaching and administrative fields, generated by professionals from the healthcare system. Therefore, the material archived may include the following types of documents, among others:

  • Articles (pre-print, post-print or publisher’s pdf according to publishing rights)
  • Publications edited by the Galician Department of Health and Sergas
  • Communications in Conferences
  • Research projects
  • Technical reports
  • Teaching material (courses, presentations of clinical sessions, etc.)
  • Images
  • Clinical videos
  • Information for patients
  • Protocols, clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways, care plans
  • Any other material that may be relevant in our field

Do I have to register in order to be able to access?

Yes, you should register using your institutional username and password.

What should I do if I can't access using my Sergas password?

In case you are unable to access with the SERGAS password, kindly contact the library of your centre (with your reference library).

What is Creative Commons License and what is its purpose? When is it appropriate to use it?

The Creative Commons (CC) License informs document readers about the way they can use the document without contacting the author.
Authors can assign a CC license if they have not assigned exploitation rights to third parties. In case you have already assigned such rights, then you will have to indicate "No CC license" when self-archiving.

Why should I give RUNA license to archive?

By granting this license, the author authorises RUNA to make the document freely available in the archive, after acceptance of the terms and conditions for use of the same.
